As Ram turning six

Ram is turning 6 now, such a big boy. This summer he mastered many skills.

Swimming
Ram always loved water; his mama-baba are not so good at swimming hence they were keen on making him comfortable in swimming. He started swimming lessons from age 2. From then on he went for lessons every summer but somehow he was not trying as well as others of his age for swimming; he liked water and would just play. This year mama-baba started thinking if it will make sense to send for lessons but finally he got enrolled. For sure this time too Ram did not listen to his teacher much and try to do his own activities and would start to shiver in middle of the lesson and then stop.

During those lessons even though he did not listen to his teacher, he was motivated to swim and was trying hard to float on water and swim. Finally at one point, he got enough confidence. After lessons were over, he started going to pool in apartment complex and kept on trying.

Now finally he is swimming all by himself in 5 ft water. He also did one lap across smaller side of the pool, this one is really big achievement for him, considering he can't swim more than 20 minutes. After about 20 minutes he feels cold, start shivering and stops.

I guess getting over cold would be his next milestone :)

Music - Piano
Ram started his music endeavor at age 3 with violin lessons. Ram wanted to play and learn more with no patience to listen to teacher or practice. Finally teacher suggested try may be next year.

Ram took break for 2 years and then started group lessons of piano, he started with same passion and same lack of patience and got same remark like before that may be he is not ready for it. When he was told about it and asked if he wants to quit. Suddenly he got serious into it and started giving all his attention and practicing at home everyday. Soon in couple weeks he was doing good. He had a piano recital where he performed confidently.

Bicycle without training wheels
Ram got his first bicycle on his third birthday and it was instant hit. He could never paddle his tricycle. Next year Baba tried to teach him without training wheels but it did not work. Now this year he practiced for 2 days with Baba and off he goes, now he is expert biker :)

Performance in school
Ram went to Montessori school where it was self paced learning, which means he will learn with his speed. Mama-Baba soon realized that, may be he is not meant for that kind of school but his teacher kept on assuring that he will get there. At the same time she would complain quite frequently about his concentration issues.
At one point Ram left the private school and went for public school which is comparatively not supposed to be that good. He liked his new school, specially because now was going to school by bus. Soon received same kind of complaints from teacher. But this time his teacher had a solution for this problem. She gave Ram a sheet with days marked and she will put 1/2/3 according to how he behaves that day. Ram's goal was to get 1 for 5 days in a row. Slowly he started working towards getting 1 each day and learned controlling his mischievous acts at school, and finally he got it. In his yearly report there is a huge difference in his behavior. At the same time he became more disciplined at home too.

His sixth year was totally different than his previous 5 years. For about 4+ years Ram was very quiet and shy, also he was not a trouble maker by any means. But now he is more dynamic, making friends quite easily and also seems to lead his group most of the times. He also achieved those skills for which he was struggling for.

And finally one big thing, he was waiting for... loosing his tooth :)

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAM !
